Job Purpose
The Pool Staff position is an essential part of the team at the DataKirk with some Pool Staff doing this as their full time work, others part time and some around other jobs outwith the DataKirk. Pool Staff provide a valuable support to permanent staff during times of sickness and holiday absences/staff shortages. You must be keen to work as part of a team to ensure the smooth daily running of our training programmes and to help create a safe, supportive, caring and empowering environment for learners and provide a high standard of teaching.
Main Responsibilities
- Provide true support and teaching to our learners.
- Join with the excellent staff teams in completing daily tasks to ensure the environment is of the highest standard.
Specific Responsibilities
- Deliver training and explaining technology related concepts clearly and concisely to learners at different skill levels, and working with learners to find solutions to their learning objectives
- Run online and in-person support sessions, consulting with the team as required, to ensure queries are resolved to the learner’s satisfaction
- Produce clear, concise, and user-friendly instructional materials to support taught courses as required or as arranged with the DataKirk team.
- Welcome people in and out of the project in accordance with charity policy
- Record & update files and other relevant documentation as appropriate
- Have strong appropriate relationships with a wide selection of DataKirk staff
- General administration duties as required
Problem Solving
- Demonstrate the ability to learn new skills and find solutions to problems independently.
- Work in collaboration with learners and staff to understand and find solutions to their learning queries, taking full ownership of any issues that arise and ensuring they are appropriate resolved or referred.
- Suggest improvements to our support and learning offering to ensure it remains effective and reflects best practice.
Knowledge, Skills and Experience
- PhD students or Degree or Master’s in Digital / Data or related field
- Knowledge and interest in Tech, STEM and digital learning highly desirable.
- Experience working with robotics, drones, Data Science, IoT or technology
- Passionate about education and technology and helping children and young people learn new skills
- Experience of team working
- Excellent interpersonal skills
- Organisational skills
- Ability to maintain clear and accurate records and paperwork
- Flexibility to respond to a changing environment
- Be sympathetic with and supportive of the aims of the DataKirk as expressed in its mission and values statements
Dimensions
- Post holder will have considerable dealings with the people in DataKirk’s projects
- Post holder will have limited dealings with external agencies and stakeholders across the organisation
- The post holder will work closely with and report to the duty manager/line manager of the unit/service
Decision Making
- Take full responsibility for ensuring workshops and support provided meet the agreed learning objectives of all learners and meet the standards for learner engagement and satisfaction as set by the wider Digital Skills Lab team.
- Independently advise staff and students on appropriate additional learning opportunities, resources, techniques, and internal or externally provided courses and projects, in support of their stated learning objectives.
Pattern of hours
- 3 – 4 hours per week
- Hourly rate: Negotiable
