For a whole week, I swapped the classroom for the dynamic world of DataKirk, all thanks to the amazing UK Work Experience program. And let me tell you, it was an experience I won’t soon forget!
My placement landed me right in the heart of the DataKirk Digital CRM Project. Now, CRM stands for Customer Relationship Management, which is basically a fancy way of saying software that helps businesses connect and manage their interactions with customers. DataKirk’s Digital CRM project was all about developing a cutting-edge system to streamline these customer interactions. And guess what? I got to be a part of it!
Learning by Doing
DataKirk’s approach to work experience is all about “learning by doing.” They don’t just throw you brochures and presentations. They dive right in and give you real, hands-on tasks. In my short week, I got to:
Design database schema and create tables for storing customer data.
Write SQL queries for inserting sample data into the database.
Develop SQL queries for common CRM operations like retrieving customer details and generating sales reports.
Implement database triggers to enforce data integrity rules.
Beyond the Technical Skills
But my experience wasn’t just about the technical aspects of the project. It was also about:
Collaborating in a team environment through daily meetings
Managing project tasks by following an organized phase-based approach
Overcoming challenges like dealing with incomplete data
A Week Well Spent
By the end of the first week, I had gained invaluable real-world experience in database management, SQL programming, and agile project methodologies. The friendly team at DataKirk provided excellent mentorship.
This work experience made me appreciate the crucial role databases play in modern CRM systems. I am grateful for the opportunity to apply my classroom knowledge to a practical, immersive project. It has motivated me to continue exploring careers in this field.
